Wendy's Big Birthday

Wendy's Big Birthday

This year, Wendy's birthday fell on Easter Monday; she had the day off work, so she could come over and enjoy it with us, but in the meantime, on Saturday, 8 April, she had arranged to meet up with two old friends for a simple meal at a Toby Carvery.

However, when she arrived at the restaurant, she discovered there had been a great meeting of minds to organise a wonderful surprise party for her; there were 15 guests present ready to greet her!

Al and Dani had also driven up from Portsmouth, to celebrate Wendy's special birthday with her, and she enjoyed a brilliant evening, with much jollity, presents and balloons - people are so kind and thoughtful, and Wendy has very dear and kind friends.

On the Easter Sunday, Wendy came over to us, and we enjoyed lunch at a Beefeater at the Liberty Bell, and I have already written about the great effort she made to decorate a beautiful cake for my birthday, with all the candles lit, which I loved.

Even though that had only been one day earlier, we are never ones to miss out on a "proper double helping" of birthday cake; it simply wouldn't feel right, having just one cake do the celebratory duty for the pair of us! so I bought a second birthday cake, which was duly iced, decorated and adorned with candles:

and when Wendy was "sitting comfortably" and ready to be serenaded with "Happy Birthday to You,"  I lit the candles, and edged carefully into the lounge, bearing the cake:

Wendy preparing to blow out the candles...

and she made a better job of it than I did with mine!
All done in one breath!

"Still no ceremonial sword available for cutting the cake?"

"...We definitely need a sharper knife!"

"I told you how old I was ... and I've got the badge to prove it!"

Just a few of the beautiful cards Wendy received for her birthday

What a brilliant result: two birthdays, two great days for celebration, and a couple of cakes. There was so much sponge cake, we shared some of it with our dear neighbours; they were very happy to be included in the celebrations, and enjoyed it with a cup of tea.
